3

The box is in the cost.

The bag or cake box goes into the cost of each item.

One batch makes 8 loaves. Each loaf takes ฿40 of ingredients, a ฿5 bag and, if you count it, ฿40 of your time. True cost: ฿85. Sell it at ฿120 and you keep ฿35, a margin of about 29%. Sell it at ฿150 and you keep ฿65, about 43%. Now you choose the price with the numbers in front of you.

Adding 50% to the cost does not mean you keep 50%

Price from margin, not markup

Margin is the share of the price you keep after the true cost.

KamraiDee prices from margin, which is the share of the sell price you keep after the true cost. Adding 50% to the cost is markup, and it does not leave you 50%. With made-up numbers, a ฿40 cost plus 50% sells at ฿60 and leaves ฿20, which is about 33% of the price.

Example · made-up numbers
Cost + 50% markup฿40 → ฿60
Share of the price you keepabout 33%

Adding 50% does not leave you 50%.

FAQ

Bread and cake costing questions, answered plainly

How do I calculate the cost of one loaf or cake?

Enter each ingredient at the pack price you paid, shipping included. Put them into a recipe and say how many the batch makes. KamraiDee divides the batch cost by that number and adds the bag or box, so you see the true cost of one loaf or cake.

Should I price my cakes with markup or margin?

KamraiDee prices from margin, which is the share of the sell price you keep after the true cost. Adding 50% to the cost is markup, and it does not leave you 50%. With made-up numbers, a ฿40 cost plus 50% sells at ฿60 and leaves ฿20, which is about 33% of the price.

Can I count my own time in the cost of a batch?

Yes, if you want to. In KamraiDee you add the hours a batch takes and an hourly rate, and that cost is shared across the batch. With made-up numbers, 4 hours at ฿80 an hour is ฿320, or ฿40 a loaf when the batch makes 8 loaves.

Does packaging go into the cost of a cake?

Yes. In KamraiDee the bag or cake box is counted in each product's cost, so the profit you see already includes it.

What does KamraiDee do for a bread and cake shop?

KamraiDee (กำไรดี) is a costing and profit app, in English and Thai, for small shops that make what they sell. For a bread and cake shop, it shows what each loaf, cake or box of cookies really costs to make, and what it earns at your price.

Is KamraiDee free for bread and cake shops?

Yes. It's free to join, and every shop type pays the same price. Once you join, you get stock with shipping in the cost, recipes with how many a batch makes, products with their profit, packaging included, a waste log in baht for what didn't sell, orders and a calendar. Customers pay you directly with your PromptPay QR. See pricing

Can I try a bread and cake cost calculator without signing up?

Yes. KamraiDee has free calculators at kamraidee.com/tools, including the cost calculator and the celebration cake calculator. They need no sign-up and save nothing.
