Sales is not profit

A high sales total is not money kept. See a ฿199 x 30 example, then count true cost on one listing today.

sales number loud, leftover cash
Sales is not profit

You sold all day. The graph went green. Orders did not stop.

Then you sat with cash and transfers at midnight and the leftover did not match the number on the screen.

That is not because you did not work hard enough. Sales and profit are not the same number. Sales is what the customer paid. Profit is what the shop kept after true cost per piece.

The owner who sees this first is not an accountant. They just stopped trusting the dashboard alone.

The sales number went up. The cash did not

Most online selling nights end the same way. Open the app. Smile. Screenshot the total. Sleep.

Morning comes with packing cost, shipping you covered, platform fees already cut, a live discount you forgot to count, and a box that came back.

The story in your head is “this month is good.” The story in your pocket is “why is nothing left.”

Those two stories do not collide because of luck. They collide because the shop is counting two different numbers.

Sales makes you feel like you won. Leftover money keeps the shop alive.

The selling app is missing lines

Selling apps are good at sales. Good at orders. Good at campaigns.

They are not good at your true cost per piece.

Lines that usually vanish from the price in your head:

  • Buy-in, or what you paid to source the piece
  • Bag, tape, wrap, sticker — packing
  • Shipping the shop paid, in full or in part
  • Platform fees stacked on top of each other, not one clean cut
  • Ads, if you ran them
  • Live-sale discounts baked into the selling price
  • COD returns that eat outbound shipping, inbound shipping, and pack time again

You do not have to fill every line tonight. If you fill none of them, sales can lie every night.

Example (not an app result): ฿199 sold 30 times

Say one listing sells at ฿199. This week you sold 30 pieces.

The app says sales are ฿5,970.

If you only subtract a ฿85 buy-in, you will think you kept ฿114 per piece, or ฿3,420. That number feels warm. It looks like the month is fine.

Now add the lines the screen does not show. This is a worked example, not a result claimed by the app, and not a live rate for every category.

Line Per piece 30 pieces
Sales ฿199 ฿5,970
Buy-in ฿85 ฿2,550
Packing ฿8 ฿240
Shipping the shop helped cover ฿25 ฿750
Platform fees stacked, example 18% ฿36 ฿1,080
Rough true cost per piece ฿154 ฿4,620
Money left ฿45 ฿1,350

The shop did not miss ฿0. The shop missed the gap between ฿3,420 it thought it kept and ฿1,350 it actually kept.

That gap is ฿2,070 in one week. Still no ads. Still no live cut. Still no returned box.

If next week a campaign asks you to drop another ฿20 to chase volume, leftover on some pieces almost disappears. Sales still looks like a win. The pocket does not.

Why hard-working owners blame themselves

Shops get trained to count sales. Sales is the easy number. Sales is the number people praise. Sales is the number the platform wants you to chase.

But the owner who sources, packs, and goes live until late is not working for a graph. They are working so the shop has money left to restock.

When the number is incomplete, hard-working owners blame themselves first. Bad at promos. Weak at ads. Not grinding enough.

Most of the time the grind is not the leak. The leak is a selling price set by feel, with true cost per piece left half-counted.

The owner who knows the number is not cooler. They just stopped guessing.

A short plan you can count today

Do not wait for a pretty system. Do not wait for bookkeeping. Count one piece.

  1. Stock — pick one listing that sold well this week
  2. True cost per piece — write buy-in + packing + shipping you covered + fees already cut
  3. Price with a real margin — see if leftover per piece still funds the next restock; if it does not, do not discount before you count
  4. Sell / restock — sell the piece you numbered, then move to the next one

These four steps are a plan you can run in your head today.

Do one piece. Do not wait for the whole notebook

Do not sit down with five hundred SKUs. Your brain will leave the room.

Take the one piece that sells best. Write four lines. Look at what is left.

If the leftover matches what you thought, the shop can breathe. You were not guessing.

If it does not match, the shop still wins. You found the leak before you cut the price again.

KamraiDee sits here. It does not arrive to turn you into an accountant. It sits with the owner who sold well and still has no cash, and helps them finish true cost per piece before they set the next price.

The first step is small. One piece. Today.

FAQ

Sales are high. Why care about profit per piece?

Sales does not pay packing, shipping, or fees. Leftover money does. High sales with thin leftover means the shop runs out of fuel when it is time to restock.

Do I need the exact platform rate first?

No. Start with what was cut from this week’s payout. A real number from the payout page beats a guess. Rates change. The habit of counting should not.

I only sell on LINE. There is no marketplace fee.

Sales is still not profit. Packing, shipping, friend-and-family discounts, and stock sitting in a cupboard still take money. The leak is just a different line.

Do I have to move the shop into an app before I can count?

No. Paper or a phone note is enough for today. An app helps when you want to repeat the count on every piece. Do not wait for a pretty tool and skip today’s number.

Do I have to raise prices tonight?

No. Today you look. Tomorrow you decide which pieces can join a campaign and which pieces go broke if you discount.

If you keep counting sales vs if you count leftover money

If you keep counting sales, you will chase the next campaign, the next cut, the next ad. The graph stays green. Restock cash gets thinner every week, with no moment that yells at you.

If you count leftover money, you know before you discount. Before you join a promo. Before you pack a piece whose shipping costs more than the margin. The shop does not get slower. It stops leaking with the lights off.

People who work this hard should not lose money because the screen left lines out.

Pick one listing. See the money that actually stays

Do not start with the whole shop. Start with the piece you sold last night.

Write four lines. See what that ฿199 actually left. If the gap makes you sit up, stay with that feeling. Do not close the screen.

Add the LINE official account and send that one product name. We count true cost per piece so you can see leftover money before the next promo.

Know true cost. See real profit. Keep more money in the shop.
